About NYLANA
Welcome to the The New York LAN Association's Web Site. We are a not for profit organization dedicated to enterprise computing located in New York City and have been in existence since 1990.
Our members are involved in very many different types of projects in various environments. They range from CIO's, Directors of IT, Novices, Students studying for their C.N.E. or M.S.E.C.E., Wizards involved in networking since 1988 to Beginners trying to learn more about networks and how to use them, LAN managers, Network Designers, Companies, Corporations, Consultants, VAR's, Integrators, the list goes on and on.
Just as our members and supporters are on many levels of networking experience and projects, so are we.
WE ARE ALL ABOUT NETWORKING.
We do not promote a particular product, vendor, consultant, school, but, like CAT 5 CABLING, we can provide a means to connect you with the resource that you need.
Like a ROUTER, we can help direct you to the correct part of the network for your needs.
Like a HUB we can concentrate the over TWELVE HUNDRED NETWORKING PROFESSIONALS in our database to a single focal point for information. Like a GATEWAY, we can interconnect seemingly different types of networks. Not just literally through operating systems such as Novell, Microsoft, IBM, Apple Computers, UNIX, etc., but STUDENTS, SCHOOLS, trouble-shooters with INFORMATION, end-users with VAR's, CONSULTANTS, and INTEGRATORS, job seekers with job listings, INNOVATORS with PRE-RELEASE, TIME-OUT OR EVALUATION SOFTWARE, Internet users with ISPs , and OTHER GROUPS OR ASSOCIATIONS that may specialize or focus in particular areas.
WE WANT YOU TO BECOME PART OF OUR NETWORK!
Throughout each month we have a number of meetings. These range from our monthly general meeting which covers topics applicable to all of us to particular topics for our SIG's (Special Interest Groups).
In the past our general meetings have covered topics such as Network recovery planning, Email, Voicemail and FAX technologies, and networking CD-ROM just to mention a few. There is also a question and answer period at each general meeting where members can try and find answers to difficult problems Experts such as Jim Leung and Roy Lopez of Novell N.Y. or other NYLANA members.
At each general meeting there is also a raffle. Sometimes this includes a gag gift such as a mouse pad, but quite often this is a full working copy of a valuable software item such as the Novell Intranetware and Managewise products.
NYLANA members also enjoy discounts on materials and services and free admision tickets to events such as PCEXPO and other N.Y.C. area computer shows , discounted access to the Internet, and many other membership benefits.
